The University:
North South University (NSU), the first private university in Bangladesh, was established by a group of philanthropists, industrialists, bureaucrats and academics. The government of Bangladesh approved the establishment of North South University in 1992 under Private University Act (PUA) 1992. The university was formally inaugurated on 10 February 1993 by Begum Khaleda Zia the then Prime Minister of Bangladesh. The honorable President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh is the Chancellor of NSU.

Stamford University Bangladesh was founded in the city of Dhaka in 1994. Then it was known as Stamford College Group, Bangladesh. It was upgraded as a private university with the permission of the Government of Bangladesh in 2002 and emerged as Stamford University Bangladesh. Bangladesh Institute of Business Academy (BIBA) started in 1996 under National University to offer BBA Program and a group of some students (MBAs) took over its management under Institute of Resources Development (IRD) in 1998. IRD students were transferred to International Islamic University Chittagong (IIUC), Dhaka Campus. Some of IRD's sponsors established Institute of Business Administration & Technology (IBAT) in1998. From 1999 to 2002 IBAT offered BBA course of National University (NU) and MBA and EMBA courses of Canadian School of Management (CSM) as its study center at Dhaka. Through our commitment to quality education we established a reputation and we were able to obtain support from our alumni to set up NUB. By the
mercy of Allah, we succeeded in getting approval from the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh and Ministry of Education on 17 October 2002. Northern University, Bangladesh (NUB) is a project of IBAT Trust. The Trust has Harvard International School (HIS), Northern College, Bangladesh (NCB), and IBATS as other sister educational institutions. The aim of IBAT Trust is to offer “Quality education an affordable cost.”

IRD students were transferred to International Islamic University Chittagong (IIUC), Dhaka Campus. Some of IRD's sponsors established Institute of Business Administration & Technology (IBAT) in1998. From 1999 to 2002 IBAT offered BBA course of National University (NU) and MBA and EMBA courses of Canadian School of Management (CSM) as its study center at Dhaka. Through our commitment to quality education we established a reputation and we were able to obtain support from our alumni to set up NUB. By the
mercy of Allah, we succeeded in getting approval from the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh and Ministry of Education on 17 October 2002. Northern University, Bangladesh (NUB) is a project of IBAT Trust. The Trust has Harvard International School (HIS), Northern College, Bangladesh (NCB), and IBATS as other sister educational institutions. The aim of IBAT Trust is to offer “Quality education an affordable cost.”

The idea of establishing a private university to provide quality education at an affordable cost in Bangladesh was first mooted by a group of prominent academics, business leaders, professionals and education enthusiasts led by Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin. With this end in view, this group formed a non-profit, non-political, charitable organization called Progoti Foundation for Education and Development (PFED). East West University is its first major project. Members of the Board of Directors of the University are: Mr. Jalaluddin Ahmed, Mr. S.M. Nousher Ali, Mr. Farooque B. Chaudhury, Dr. Rafiqul Huda Chaudhury, Mr. Syed Manzur Elahi, Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Mr. Mohammed Zahidul Haque R.Ph., Dr. Saidur Rahman Lasker, Dr. Muhammad A. Mannan, Professor M. Mosleh-Uddin, Mr. Shelley A. Mubdi, Mr. M.A. Mumin, Dr. Khalil Rahman, Mr. H.N. Ashequr Rahman and Mrs. Razia Samad. International Islamic University Chittagong (IIUC) is one of the Government approved Private Universities in Bangladesh. The credit for the idea of establishing this University goes to Islamic University Chittagong Trust (IUCT), which is the founder organization of the University. The Trust is a non-political and non-profit voluntary organization, registered with the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh under the Societies Act XXI of 1860. Under the aegis of IUCT and the grace of Allah (Swt), Islamic University Chittagong got the Government Approval on February 11, 1995 and the University was founded in the same year accordingly.
In 2004 IIUC was recognized as one of the 9 Top-graded (out of 52) Private Universities by Government-appointed High Powered Team led by the UGC Chairman. At present it is the largest private University with 287 (213 Full Time) teachers and around 10,500 students from home and abroad. The total space used for academic and administrative purposes is around 4,59,990 sft. A good number of full time teachers are studying abroad for higher degrees with IIUC scholarship.

Darul Ihsan University is a purely non-profit educational institution. Like many other private Universities of the country, it is also being developed out of the funds/contributions made available through net surpluses of the students' fees and donations of the benevolent personalities/institutions from home and abroad. The greatest of all contributors was the Late Professor Dr. Syed Ali Ashraf himself. In addition to his two houses located on 20 Katha land in Dhanmondi, he has also donated 13 acres of land in Savar and one residential flat in Cambridge towards the development of Darul Ihsan University. Qatar Charitable Trust, Iqra Charitable Society (Jeddah), Sheikh Ahmed Salah Jamjoom, Dr. Aleem Mohammed (Trinidad, West Indies) and some other foreign agencies have made significant contributions to the University.

It consists of 160-162 credit hours divided as: (i) English (6 credits), (ii) Islamic Studies (6 credits) (iii) Bangladesh Studies (3 credits)(iv)Business Studies Course(3 credits)(v) Computer Science and Engineering (140 credits), and (vi) Project Work (4 credits).
A student is required to obtain a minimum of 2.00 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) on a 4.0 scale for the award of the B. Sc. Degree. The Computer Science and Information Technology programme will have similar features.

At present both the Departments of CSE & ITE are housed in House # 21, Road # 9/A, Dhanmondi R/A, Dhaka-1209 which is located in a most convenient, easily accessible place to come from all parts of Dhaka City. This building is elegant and furnished with modern fittings. Library, reading room and all labs are located in this building with modern teaching and laboratory facilities required to run high-standard academic and research programs.
